Summertime is when I do most of my entertaining reading. It just feels so relaxing reading a fun book while relaxing on the beach or in a hammock in the garden.
In the download below, you will get three bookmarks depicting my favorite fruits this season: watermelon, kiwi, and dragon fruit — all painted by me with watercolors.
If you’re curious how to create bookmarks from your watercolor art, scroll down below. I will share a very simple and easy technique to turn your art into printable bookmarks.
Download & Print Instructions
- Download the free printable bookmarks pdf
- Print your fruit bookmarks on heavy card stock and then cut out with scissors or X-Acto knife and a ruler.
Oh, don’t forget to let me know in the comments below your favorite books you are reading right now. I’m currently enjoying the classic — 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.
Turn your art into bookmarks — the easy way!
If you would like to create your own bookmarks, there are a couple of ways to do it. I like using Photoshop for the job, but there’s an easier way if you don’t have the software. Here’s a quick guide to creating bookmarks from your watercolor paintings:
1. Photograph or scan your art
Photograph your art either with your camera or your phone. You can also use a scanner to get best quality images. Using a high-quality camera will create better images, but phones nowadays also take great photos. If you decide to use a camera, save the image to your phone images.
2. Brighten and increase contrast
Use the editing on your phone to brighten the image and increase contrast. We want to do that because when printing art at home, it always looks dull. Increasing the brightness and contrast of the image will help mediate the dullness and make your printout nice and bright. Of course, use your judgment if you think it looks better with lower or higher contrast. You might need to experiment here.
3. Design in Canva
- Once the image is prepped, go to canva.com. You will need an account. The non-premium version is free — and we want to use the free version.
- Click create design and search for a “bookmark,” this will load a bookmark template.
- Drag and drop (or upload) your image onto the template. Resize and move it around just like you like it. If you want to create multiple bookmarks, click on “add page” to add more bookmark templates.
- Once done with your design, click on share and download. That’s it! Super easy!
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to download the bookmarks below. The use of the file is for personal use only.
